What Driveway Lights Are Good To Light Up Your Driveway?

When you think about ways to enlighten your driveway, right away you probably think about driveway lighting. However,  what is the BEST type of lights to illuminate your driveway? There are literally hundreds of different lights, sources, types of bulbs, heights, etc.

First off, it really depends on how much you want to spend and how bright you want the light to be! All bulbs are going to cost different amounts and all bulbs are going to have disadvantages and benefits.

Now, if you have a home that is somewhat set back and you have a long driveway, you probably want something with a brighter bulb, but you probably do not want something that is going to be on all the time. Having a long driveway and having the lights on constantly is seriously going to eat up your electric bill!

So, for something like this, you might want to consider driveway lighting such as light poles or ground lights and you might want to use motion sensors or motion detectors. This way the lights will only turn on if they sense motion. Have it be motion from a person (good or bad), or a car (yours or someone else’s).

On the other hand, if you want something that will be on all the time, you might want to consider a cheaper driveway lighting option such as solar pathway lights. These are light that will illuminate your driveway, but since they are solar, they will also be less expensive since the solar power comes directly from the UV rays from the sun. These pathway lights use little to no wiring and can be placed directly on the driveway.

Of course, you also need a somewhat wider driveway for these since the last thing you want to do is run them over! If you want something really bright, something that is on all the time, and you really do not think that driveway lighting really makes a difference in your electric bill, I would suggest going for something really high strength like a spotlight device or a really bright bulb with a non-frosted glass globe.

When you have frosted globes on top of something like a light post it tends to dim down the brightness. Instead, choose a globe or interface that is clear glass. In addition, the clear glass will allow the light to infract the light and cause it to be even brighter! Lastly, for the lights that you do choose to have on all the time, you can also set timers on these.

Therefore, you might set it to go on at dusk to illuminate your driveway and turn off at dawn, or whatever you choose. The point here is that you really DO have a lot of choices when it comes to driveway lighting! This will add a sense of security to the home, it will add much needed light to the driveway and it will also add an extra blanket of elegance if you do choose for a more aesthetic feel!
